Sacred Pond of Eternal Love

Govardhan

A Divine Spot for Devotees and Pilgrims

Radha Kund, located in Govardhan near Mathura, is one of the most revered pilgrimage sites in the Braj region. It holds a sacred place in the hearts of Krishna devotees as it is believed to be the place where Radha and Krishna performed their most intimate pastimes. The kund (pond) is surrounded by serene ghats and small temples, where devotees take holy dips, especially during midnight on auspicious days like Ahoi Ashtami and Kartik month. Visiting Radha Kund is not just about sightseeing; it is an emotional and spiritual journey for devotees seeking divine connection. The peaceful atmosphere, sacred waters, and chants create a deeply spiritual experience. Pilgrims often combine it with Shyam Kund (right next to it), and both are considered more spiritually potent than even the Ganga by many saints.

History and Legacy

Radha Kund has an ancient and spiritual significance tied deeply to the love story of Lord Krishna and Radha Rani. According to legend, after Lord Krishna killed the demon Aristasura, Radha playfully insisted He purify Himself by bathing in sacred rivers. Krishna, in turn, struck the earth with His foot, and the waters of all holy rivers appeared to form Shyam Kund. To reciprocate, Radha and her friends dug a kund nearby using their bangles, which then filled with holy water. This became Radha Kund.

Saints like Raghunath Das Goswami, one of the six Goswamis of Vrindavan, glorified Radha Kund and emphasized its supreme spiritual importance. Over centuries, it has been a meditation point for devotees and saints alike. It is believed that even a drop of Radha Kund’s water can purify one’s soul. During Kartik Purnima, thousands of devotees gather here to take a midnight dip in its sacred waters.
