History and Legacy
Shyam Kund traces its roots to one of the most compelling legends of Lord Krishna. According to ancient scriptures, after Krishna killed the demon bull Aristasura, Radha and her friends told him he had committed a sin by slaying a bull. To purify himself, Krishna struck the ground with his heel and summoned all the holy rivers to form Shyam Kund. It is said that the water from the sacred Ganga, Yamuna, Saraswati, and other holy rivers reside in this kund, giving it immense purifying power.
Later, Radha and her sakhis dug a kund nearby with their bangles, which became Radha Kund. Krishna then blessed Radha Kund as even more sacred.
